Update: Toshio Suzuki Will Not Be Retiring As Producer

Japanese news sites like Cinema Today are now reporting that Toshio Suzuki, who is the producer and co-founder of Studio Ghibli, is not retiring. It was reported that the TBS radio station in Japan, that Suzuki was a guest on, misunderstood what he had to say.  On the radio station Suzuki talked about an “honorable retirement” which is what sparked the news that he was going to retire as the producer for Studio Ghibli.  The statement that Suzuki made was just a joke that the hosts of the radio show took too seriously.

Suzuki becoming the general manager is something that he will be doing on the side while he still produces the films.  It’s a relief that this was all just a big misunderstanding and that Studio Ghibli will have Suzuki as a producer for a little while longer now.

There will be updates when more information on the situation is released.
